Northern’s Small Business Development Center announces The Gift Shoppe and Chile Line Express.com as outstanding business client of the year. Owners Art & Carole Pruett were presented with their “Outstanding Business Award’ at a dinner recognition at the La Fonda in Santa Fe. The Pruett’s were also recognized at the State Capitol on the House and Senate floor.
Espanola's Gift Shoppe and Box Pack & Mail have been in business for 10 years and expanded to include the Chile Line Express On-Line Store. Originally starting out as Box Pack & Mail, it has evolved into a gift store and Web business and is doing so well it is looking to expand.
Owner Carole Pruett attributes part of her success to the Small Business Development Center at Northern New Mexico College in Espanola. "It is assuring and encouraging having the support of the Small Business Development Center's fine staff of trained people offering all kinds of services, workshops and professional help to small businesses." Says Carole. "The staff's guidance, direction and organized apporach with their clients helps assure our business goals are achieved by providing us with the tools we need. It's an enormous resource for the small business entrepreneur."
When you open the door to the Gift Shop located in the heart of Northern New Mexico, the Espanola Valley you are enchanted with the flare, spice and sounds of three cultures arts and tradition. You will find unique southwestern gifts by several local artisans, a variety of card lines, books, local foods, a Chile line, a coffee bar and local musicians performing.
Carole and her husband Art moved to Espanola from San Antonio, Texas in 1990 and began their entrepreneurial journey. Box Pack & Mail expanded to include a Gift Shop and now the Chili Line Express website on-line store. Here you can find Margarita Fiesta Cake Mix, Hot Sauces, Chile & Peanuts, Amour Chocolate Pecans, Gourmet Coffee, Painted Ponies and more! Open mic session events provide a place to encourage musicians of all ages to get practice and exposure in a public atmosphere. "Carole's entrepreneurial spirit, energy and endless creative ideas continue to grow with the growth of her business." says SBDC Director Julianna Barbee.
Future plans are currently underway to expand the Chile Line Express on-line store, develop their own food lines, and include a gallery for local artisans. "My hope, when space is available, is to provide our community, with an enjoyable place to come for pleasure and entertainment." Says Carole. "A search to find a larger location site is currently unerway and continued expansion is a priority."
