"Small businesses are the backbone of the New Mexico economy, accounting for more than 80 percent of all jobs in the state," according to NMSBDC director Roy Miller, seen at left.

In 2004, New Mexico Small Business Development Center Network (NMSBDC) consulted with more than 3,900 potential or existing business owners. Seventy-one percent of those that started or had a business in 2000-01 were still in business in 2004, compared to only 50% nationwide according to a study by the SBA. Last year the NMSBDC:

  • guided 168 clients through the process of choosing to start a business
  • created more than 600 new jobs
  • helped 170 clients obtain more than $20 million in loans
  • helped clients receive more than $10 million in equity financing

Our mission is to provide quality direct assistance, entrepreneurial education and resource links for potential and existing small businesses to strengthen the economy of New Mexico.

Through our network of 18 local centers, we offer:

  • direct assistance

  • entrepreneurial education

  • resource linkages

Strengthening Your Business Strengthens New Mexico
Each year we showcase New Mexico small businesses at Small Business Day at the Legislature. View our calendar for other events of interest to small businesses and business assistance organizations, or sign up to receive our newsletter.

For additional small business resources, see NM Resources, Federal Resources, or Other Resources.

The Lead Center also secures funding, coordinates the activities of the local centers, and does outreach on behalf of the statewide network. Our ongoing professional development program ensures continuous improvement at the 18 local centers and lead center.

Our mission is to strengthen New Mexico's economy by helping you maintain and expand your existing small business or develop a new one.
