2007 Los Alamos Success Client...The Harp of the Spirit, LLC
Photo The Harp of the Spirit started business in October 2000 as a photography company following in the artistic tradition of the arts in New Mexico. As a startup, it was run evenings and weekends while owner Michelle Stump continued with her full-time job as a technical writer. During the first six years, goals were gradually refined to center on photo-based digital art, and the product line was narrowed to images primarily of New Mexico and their representation on greeting cards and posters. The intent of The Harp of the Spirit is to reunite mankind with the sacred beauty of this world.

The hauntingly beautiful Harp of the Spirit greeting cards and posters of New Mexico are being mailed world-wide by purchasers who makeup a broad cross section of the public. Requests for product information come from retail stores as far away as Alaska, Hawaii, and Indonesia. The Harp of the Spirit, through its developing distribution channels, unofficially advertises the wonder of New Mexico and has opened a window to our state to tourists and business people from an ever-increasing customer base.

When asked about her involvement with the UNM-LA Small Business Development Center, Michelle said: “Guidance and support from The UNM-LA SBDC have made The Harp of the Spirit what it is today – a small New Mexico business emerging onto the national scene with a very New Mexican product. The UNM- LA SBDC helped me formulate my catalog and pricing structure and establish myself as an LLC. Their continued presence in my business life have kept me in the know about bookkeeping, New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax, Quickbooks, and generally everything I need to know to run a successful small business.”

Michelle Stump’s work has received awards from New Mexico Magazine and the Imaging Professionals of the Southwest. Her work was juried into the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair at Expo New Mexico. Future plans for The Harp of the Spirit include an international retail distribution for cards, posters, and small wall calendars. New products planned for 2008/2009 are individually personalized products for corporations that will bear all corporate information requested by the company.
