The Candyman Strings & Things
''The Candyman, Strings & Things'' Rand & Cindy Cook
|
Rand and Cindy Cook purchased The Candyman, Strings & Things in 2009. When the opportunity to purchase the business was presented, Rand and Cindy created a business plan and sought financing at a local community bank. They worked with the Santa Fe Small Business Development Center to fine tune the plan and received their funding successfully including a $25,000 EDPPlus grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas).
Together the Cooks have taken Strings & Things to a new level. Paying close attention to their market, Rand and Cindy have created ‘Santa Fe’s Community Music Center’. They redesigned the floor plan of the shop to accommodate lesson rooms, as well as listening and practice rooms. The Cooks believe it is important for our youth to be exposed to making music, they host rock band camps year round. Rand and Cindy have received 5 national awards for their efforts in marketing, merchandising, and rock camps and schools.
Cindy explained, “When the opportunity to purchase The Candyman Strings & Things came along, the SBDC gave us invaluable advice and resources in creating a solid business plan and realistic financial forecasting allowing us to secure the funding needed for our business. Ms. Collins, our SBDC Advisor, has helped us over the past 3 years with a variety of business topics from personnel to business plan revisions, financial health, and growth planning. We consider her an extension of our management team and part of The Candyman family. We look forward to continuing to utilize SBDC resources as our business grows and changes.”
The staff at The Candyman has grown to 13 and the store now utilizes 20 contractors to deliver their instructional programs and perform installations. Sales have increased each year since the Cooks took ownership of The Candyman, despite the weak national economy. The Santa Fe SBDC applauds Rand and Cindy Cook for their community mindedness, and their business savvy!
